March 13, 2004   "Kajukenbo: Fi Kuen or Flying Fists"
windows media    mp3 download  (12.6 mb)

"On The Edge" Radio host Datu Kelly S. Worden talks with Grand Master Ted Sotelo, who is a direct line Black Belt of Kajukenbo' founder Sijo Adriano Emperado. One of Prof. Al Dacascos's first black belts, he also has an extensive background in Pro Boxing, American style Grappling, and Kung Fu. He has the distinction of being one of a few Americans recogniz ed as a Master in Doce Pares Escrima under Grand Master Cacoy Canete. Grand Master Sotelo has trained many World Champions including Damon Gilbert, and Malia Bernal Dacascos. He calls his expression of Kajukenbo, "Fi Kuen". Fi Kuen literally means flying fist or rapid fire attack. It employs fighting methods that overwhelms the opponent through multiple strikes and causes their thought process to freeze up, thus rendering them helpless to attack. Everything about this part of the system is geared for the streets. There is no practicing for tournaments, no practicing set techniques. Everything is spontaneous and taught according to how the student moves and reacts to situations that are presented to him in a real life fashion. Grand Master Sotelo teaches and lives in Las Vegas, Nevada and his site is at http://www.kajukenbowarriors.com; 54 min. (3-13-2004)
